Tred (registered as John Magill, SA Tourist Guide WC0116, registered in the Western Cape since 2002) is a qualified Cultural, Nature and Adventure (mountain) guide with over two decades of commercial guiding experience in and around Cape Town. He holds a Generic Adventure Site Guide qualification (GASG, NQF4), a Nature Site Guide qualification (NQF2) and First Aid Level 2, is registered with CATHSSETA and the Department of Tourism, and holds a PDP. As an Advanced Mountain Walking Leader he is qualified to lead up to C-grade on- and off-trail routes in wilderness areas below 2400m. His mountaineering experience spans Table Mountain, Du Toits Kloof, the Cederberg, Drakensberg and Brandberg (Namibia), as well as Snowdonia, the Scottish Highlands and England's Lake and Peak Districts, with high-altitude alpine experience in Switzerland and France — including summiting Mont Blanc (4810m) in 2009. As a Nature guide he shares the region's geology, flora, fauna and natural history, and as a Cultural guide the history and diverse cultural influences of Cape Town. Guiding since 1999, he brings a safety-first approach and a genuine passion for wild places to every hike.
